What is TMJ? TMJ stands for Temporomandibular Joint, the name for the ball and socket joint that connects the lower jaw to the skull. Discomfort or sensitiveness in this joint or the muscles surrounding it is generally known as a TMJ disorder. Indications of TMJ dysfunction may include headaches, migraines, discomfort in the jaw and/or ear, painful clicking in the jaw, which frequently goes hand in hand with an incapacity to open or close the mouth correctly, and teeth which do not fit together
